We’re thrilled to announce that the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and Fortune magazine announced today that Concept Technology has been named to the 2012 Inner City 100, a list of the fastest-growing inner city companies in America. We ranked 53rd on the list.

To be considered for the Inner City 100, a majority of a company’s operations must be located in an economically distressed urban area, which is defined as having 50% or higher unemployment, 50% or higher poverty and 50% or lower median income than the metropolitan statistical area. Businesses must also have at least 10 full-time employees, a five-year operating sales history and current revenues of at least $1 million.

We love being located on Music Row, a historic, culturally and business rich area in Nashville. More importantly, we couldn’t operate our business from the suburbs because a large part of being an IT service provider is computer and technical support. Our engineers have to be able to respond to customers’ emergencies within 30 minutes, and often that means traveling to their places of business. If we weren’t centrally located, we wouldn’t be able to provide the same quality of service. It’s that simple.

IT Jargon Quiz #3

Congratulations - you have completed IT Jargon Quiz #3. You scored %%SCORE%% out of %%TOTAL%%. Your performance has been rated as %%RATING%%
Your answers are highlighted below.
Question 1
What is an exploit that takes advantage of a security vulnerability on the same day that the vulnerability becomes generally known
Security Breach
Hint: IT security breaches are not time specific. One can occur today, tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, the fourth Tuesday of the month…you get the point.
Zero-Day Exploit
Day of Reckoning
Hint: The correct term is not nearly as loaded as the term used to describe the Last Judgment. You know, the day Christians believe that God will come down and judge everyone. No biggie.
24-Hour Virus
Hint: Do you know why the 24-Hour Virus (aka the Flu) occurs primarily in the winter? Neither do scientists. Theories include that people are indoors more often in the winter and have more opportunities to spread the virus or that the virus survives longer at colder temperatures.
Question 1 Explanation:Ordinarily, when someone detects that a software program contains a potential security issue, that person or company will notify the software company (and sometimes the world at large) so that action can be taken. Given time, the software company can fix the code and distribute a patch or software update. Even if potential attackers hear about the vulnerability, it may take them some time to exploit it; meanwhile, the fix will hopefully become available first.
Question 2
What is the name given to any program or file that is harmful to a computer user?
Monkey Wrench
Hint: Offering “Monkey Wrench” as an answer was merely an excuse for a Foo Fighters musical interlude. http://bit.ly/w0UNgQ
Charybdis
Hint: Charybdis is the name given to a sea monster in Greek mythology. And a genus of crabs. And a supervillian in DC comics. But it’s not the name given to any program or file that is harmful to a computer user.
Malware
Exploit
Hint: In plain-speak ‘an exploit’ is a notable deed or feat. In geek-speak it’s a program that takes advantage of a vulnerability or weakness within software. In either language, it’s the incorrect answer.
Question 2 Explanation:Malware is short for ‘malicious software’ and can include computer viruses, worms, trojan horses and spyware.
Question 3
What is an internet prank where a visitor who clicks on a specific link is intentionally misdirected to a video of pop star Rick Astley’s hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Rickroll
Lulz
Hint: The reason for doing anything questionable on the internet…I did it for the lulz.
Kiss my Astley
Hint: Now that’s just rude.
Punk’d
Hint: What do Ashton Kutcher and Rick Astley have in common? Nothing.
